While I am currently engaged as an academic, both teaching (sociology, African Studies, history, international relations, gender studies) and managing a research network, I maintain strong linkages to the NGO community and have an activist bent. I have strong leadership, networking, and organizational skills and experience in training, consulting, editing, and fundraising. My current areas of research include: Chinese in Africa, China/Africa linkages; migration; South Africa; ethnicity, race & gender; racism/xenophobia, anti-racism, and affirmative action; identity & identity politics.
